Certified Organic & Biodynamic Herb Starts
Herbs have a place in every garden, I fully believe you can never have enough herbs. I guess this is because I always seem to be planting more of them, everytime just a little bit closer to the kitchen door!
To assist you in getting off on the right foot, Flowers by the Sea will be offering a wide variety of herb plants - and a few beneficial companion flower plants as well - beginning in March 2009.
If you can, BUY LOCAL. Shipping these plants long distances is not appropriate if there is a local supplier of good quality, Certified Organic and preferably Certified Biodynamic plants. If not, we are here to help you.
We have not included general growing information in the plant listings here, as this is well beyond the scope of our farm web site. Where a variety has special needs or we have, from our experience, found out something that will help you and your garden, we'll share it.
We offer many fine culinary herbs in Jumbo 6-packs:
- Basil
- Oregano
- Parsley
- Chives
- Lemon Balm
- Epazote
Soon we will offer several hardy perennial culinary herbs in 3 1/2" pots, including:
- Thyme
- Marjoram
- Sage
- and many other unusual kinds
What we grow
In general, we grow a limited number of tried-and-true varieties - all from Certified Organic or Biodynamic seed. Many of these are the same varieties, in fact the same plants that we use in our production fields. You can be certain that the ones we pick to offer to you have been successful for many years, and in some cases for many decades.
How many do I have to order?
For plants in 3 1/2" pots, you may order as many as you wish. Please note we offer discounts for larger quantities.
For plants in Jumbo 6-Packs, you must order six of a kind or any multiple of six. The price shown id for a six-pack. We also offer discounts on larger quantities, to make the most of your shipping dollar.
When do I have to order?
Plants can be reserved or pre-ordered at any time. In fact, we strongly suggest that you place your order as soon as possible. We always run out of plants for each and every shipping date. If you book your order now, we will not process your credit card until we ship. And you will have the greatest flexibility in your selection of varieties and shipping dates.
You may place an order for any of the available shipping weeks. For Spring 2009, these are the weeks of:
- March 15
- March 29
- April 12
- April 26
- May 3
- May 10
- May 17
- May 24
- May 31
Remember, we ship on Tuesday and Wednesday, via USPS. We strongly suggest that you use Express Mail if you live outside California or Southern Oregon.
If, due to problematic growing conditions here at the farm, or inclement weather that would make shipping risky, we will generally be able to ship the next week. If there are any difficulties, we will of course contact you for directions.
Happy Herb Gardening!
