Got my order this afternoon. Everything was great, much better than I expected. Thanks for the extra keikis. Many of your keikis were bigger and more advanced than some 2 1/2-3 inch potted orchids I've received from other mail-order nurseries at 3 times the price.

Iochroma fuchsiodes
(Red Arbol de Brujo) From the high, moist forests of the Andes comes this elegant and dramatic plant. Glossy leaves and dark bark on this six foot plus shrub are a fine background for the ultra-numerous three inch long creamy red flowers that flare at the ends to revel the coppery-orange interiors. Blooming thorough the warm season, it is an unbelievable draw for the hummingbirds!

In Zone 8 this plant is generally reliable as a herbaceous perennial.

Note: These are large, well branched plants.  Unlike the small just-rooted cuttings offered elsewhere, these will grow quickly and make an outstanding display the first year.

Like many plants in the Solanaceae - including Brugmansia to which this genus is closely related - Iochroma species contain phytochemicals with potential pharmaceutical value but the genus has not been exhaustively studied in this respect. This variety, considered extremely potent, is taken by the medicine men of the Kamsa Indians in the Colombian Andes in shamanistic rituals.  We offer this plant as a collector’s plant for your patio or garden and do not encourage it’s “recreational” use.

We are pleased to suggest these other plants, which go well with Iochroma fuchsiodes:

#552
Artemisia lactiflora ‘Guizhou’ Artemisia lactiflora ‘Guizhou’

(Guizhou White Mugwort) A tall, moisture loving, fall blooming and hardy Mugwort. It even grows well in light shade. A very fine addition to any perennial garden.

#740
Centradenia floribunda Centradenia floribunda

(Spanish Shawl) This is one of these plants that stops most people in their tracks. The deep purple/pink, velvety flowers are show stoppers in and of themselves - but the furry leaves, which start green and mature to a bronze red are unique and unforgettable.

#708
Plectranthus amboinicus 'Silver Curl' Plectranthus amboinicus 'Silver Curl'

(Silver Curl Cuban Oregano) The thick, furry, silvery and very fragrant leaves of this spreading plant are curled and twisted - a charming variation to the common form of this species. This is a seedling from an interspecific cross that regressed - almost - to one of the parents. A short trailer, enjoy this plant where the spicy, Oregano-like scent the leaves give off on a warm day.

#295
Salvia divinorum 'Blosser Strain' Salvia divinorum 'Blosser Strain'

(Divine Sage) Salvia divinorum’s mystic arises from it’s reputed hallucinogenic properties as well as it’s stubborn refusal to bloom in all but the most exacting of cultural conditions. When a gardener does get lucky, she is rewarded with velvety white flowers in whorls along lavender stems.

#663
Salvia divinorum 'Luna' Salvia divinorum 'Luna'

(Divine Sage) The rare and much sought after Luna clone was discovered under a mature plant on Maui, Hawaii.  It features much larger, rounder leaves than any of the other cultivated strains, with prominent central markings of silvery white.  It is reputed to be very much more potent medicinally than other strains as well.

Salvia divinorum’s mystic arises from it’s reputed hallucinogenic properties as well as it’s stubborn refusal to bloom in all but the most exacting of cultural conditions. When a gardener does get lucky, she is rewarded with velvety white flowers in whorls along lavender stems.

 Our price: $35.00
