List of Available Plants

Most of these are large, well established, in most cases specimen plants, ready to thrive and bloom in your care. In some cases we have smaller starter propagations available as well. Please inquire.

Dendrobium kingianum

We are offering three fine clones of this miniature species. All are very different. What they do share is ease of growth and free flowering.

var. album ‘Elk White’

This clone is the result of a selfing of the very fine ‘Bay Islands’ clone. It is a very small cane, generally less than 3 inches high and very fat. A miniature delight! Small, pure white heavy textured flowers are presented on short stems. The foliage is light green – this is a true album. It is my personal favorite for tree fern baskets or slabs. Needs to be kept quite moist.

Full 4-inch tree fern baskets $50.00

Full 6-inch tree fern baskets $100.00

Full 6-inch teak baskets $100.00

var. pallidum ‘Paul’

A family heirloom probably secured at the Santa Barbara International Orchid Show in the 1950’s. Tall, thin canes grow in great profusion to about 9 inches. The flowers are large, pale lilac mauve on strong stems. Often there are three flower stems for each cane. We grow this clone in pots or in very showy teak baskets.

4-inch pots with 15+ canes $45.00

‘Elk #1’

Light pink flowers with a dark pink lip, often ten or more on an inflorescence. Better than ‘Ruth’ in my opinion. Cane size is mid-way between the prior two clones. Foliage is very dark green and heavy. I suspect this clone to be a chance tetraploid. It is the best of a large lot of seedlings raised from a flask secured in Australia many years ago. It grows slowly, but is very hardy and eventually makes very large plants. We have a 12" by 36" tree fern slab covered with this clone at one end of a greenhouse.

Full 6-inch teak baskets $75.00

Dendrobium x delicatum (kingianum x speciosum) ‘Elk #1’

Delicatum is a natural hybrid, and quite variable in form depending on the ssp. of speciosum used. This one has 9-12 inch canes, rather fat, that expand and contract like as the moisture conditions change. It will get much taller and darker green in lower light conditions, but will bloom less. My guess is that D. speciosum ssp. speciosum was the parent. I gave grown this clone, another family heirloom, for decades in environments as diverse as full dun on rocks on the Coast to hollow stumps to garden beds to tree fern slabs. I like it best in pots, where it forms great large clumps that display large sprays of light pink, fragrant flowers usually twice a year. This makes a grand specimen. All being offered here qualify as specimen plants already.

8-inch pots – appx. 30 canes + $150.00

6-inch pots – appx. 15 canes + $75.00 and up

Full 6-inch teak baskets $100.00

Dendrobium Kingrose ‘Elk#1’ (D. Bardo Rose x kingianum)

Bardo Rose is falcorostrum x kingianum. So this grex is primarially kingianum. What this clone inherits from falcorostrum is fragrance and depth of color. It displays 3 to 7 small, very heavy textured dark pink flowers with dark, almost red lips on short spikes. The depth of color varies greatly depending on the amount of light the plant is grown in – high light gives the best, most saturated color. Canes are small, about 4-inches high, and densely clustered. This plant resembles a very dark green D. kingianum ssp. kingianum. It has always been a favorite.

4-inch pots – appx .20 canes + $35.00 and up

Special Note - Most are now coming into bloom!

Dendrobium (Zip x Peter) seedlings

In the mid 1980’s we purchased several flasks of this cross. It may have been registered. These are some of the finest seedling from this large lot. Flower form and color vary little – most are primarily white with purple speckling or striping, with nicely marked contrasting purple lips. Flowers tend to be close to 2 inches across, star shaped on rather long spikes. Another favorite of ours for specimens, these can grow to be 16-inches or higher.

We have a variety of divisions and whole plants, large and small, from $25 to $100.

Please inquire if you are looking for something special. We have a few other great clones that may fit your needs. You will not be disappointed with the quality of our plants.
