Flowers by the Sea is
a Certified Biodynamic/Organic farm and nursery located on 45 acres on
California’s Mendocino Coast. The climate is cool and moist, with little
seasonal variation. Cool growing species and hybrids in such genera as
Masdavallia, Cymbidium, Dendrobium,
Laelia, Epidendrum, various Mexican Oncidium tribe genera and Disa grow
magnificently.
We focus a lot of attention on old and new clones of Cymbidium
species, with emphasis on those that will grow without expensive heat.
We have been growing many of these clones for more than 40 years, and
have had success with every plant on this list. Many were at one time very
popular with hobbyists, but were almost lost to cultivation when the
"next-best-thing" came. Some are of great historical
significance, others just be best of their kind. All of these plants,
unless otherwise described, are free growing and flowering, adaptable to a
range of growing conditions and unique in some way. Many of these are not
the run-of-the-mill clones and seedling you will encounter in the general
nursery trade. In most cases, these are the plants that draw the greatest
attention when visitors see them. All are available in very limited
quantities, and subject to prior sale.
How We do Business
Having been in the orchid world for so long, I greatly prefer the
old-fashioned, personal approach. So no CLICK HERE TO ORDER for something
as special as orchids. Just
email or call us to place an order, and we will tell you exactly what is
available and then carefully pack up and ship to you as quickly as
possible. All plants are shipped bare root, with the obvious exception of
slabs, tree fern or teak baskets.
We generally use US Priority Mail, but can use Express
Mail or another service on request, during cold weather or to the distant
side of the country. You decide when we should ship and by what method. We
charge actual shipping and packaging price in addition to the cost of the
plants. Payment is by check or money order, with a minimum order of
$75.00.
We have done our best to accurately describe the plants being offered,
and can email photos of many of these varieties if you wish. We guarantee them to be true-to-name,
healthy and ready to delight you. |
