Bears Breech is the common name for the genus Acanthus.
Many Aacanthus species and varieties have decorative spiny leaves and
are cultivated as ornamental plants. In fact, the Mediterranean
acanthus was the inspiration for a stylized motif found in ancient
Greek and Roman art.

All Acanthus grow in full sun in cooler areas, or part shade everywhere. They can be vigorous to the point of invasive, as cut roots will sprout and grow new plants. Site them where you can enjoy the bold architectural form and the stunning large flowers that last for weeks when cut.
Looking for the perfect companion plant? Try one of the low to mid size Campanulas. They'll give you a fabulous textural contrast, and a bit of cool color as well.
