WOW!!! I just received another shipment of plants froom FBTS. These plants are Beautiful. Perfect condition big healthy salvias!

I can't say enough positive things about Kermit and Vikki. By far the best place to buy salvias from. I wouldn't think of buying elsewhere without seeing if they have the plant I am looking for first.

I honestly cannot recommend them more highly. Don't hesitate to place an order here, you will not find better people to deal with anywhere.

Salvia cleistogama
(Closed Sage) This somewhat rare Salvia is a very fine, yellow & blue flowered herbaceous perennial. Originally native to Europe, it has become naturalized in Alabama, California, Georgia, Maryland, North Carolina, New Jersey, Pennsylvania and Virginia.

The name Closed Sage refer to the fact that the flowers self-pollinate even before they open.

The nomenclature of this species is somewhat confusing.  S. cleistogama seems to be the proper name for what was previously S. verbenacea.  I believe it to be a very different plant.  One grower calls it the "Mystery Sage".

In any case, this is a candidate for less-than-perfect conditions, as it thrives on neglect.  Use it in sunny, wild areas where it will attract honeybees and hummingbirds.  A nice plant to use in the wild parts of a border.
