Testimonials
Beautiful plants well packed for winter delivery arrived in great shape, thank you!
Chris Malik

I have now had gardens in four locations (Boston, Oregon, Palm Springs, and Mountain Center, CA) with plants from Flowers by the Sea. I LOVE Salvias, and there is no one I'd rather buy them from.

Plants are shipped well, and in a timely fashion, always surprisingly large and always well-rooted, healthy specimens. The owners are knowledgeable and helpful, in fact, extraordinarily so. FBTS is one of my favorite online nurseries - and I've probably purchased over the last few decades from a fifty different nurseries.

Live long and prosper, FBTS!!
Nora Williams

Salvia dichlamys

Salvia dichlamys

(Scarlet Rooster Sage) From the Mountains of Mexico we have this stunning Sage, which seems never to be out of bloom. A superior hummingbird plant, the warm orange flowers that cover this shrubby perennial make it a standout in the garden.

Easy to grow, you can use this one as a background to lighter flowered plants, as a Summer hedge, or as a stunning container plant.  We are amazed how popular these blooms are to our hummingbirds.

Highly recommended.

We are pleased to suggest these other plants, which go well with Salvia dichlamys:

#300
Salvia elegans 'Honey Melon' Salvia elegans 'Honey Melon'

(Honey Melon Pineapple Sage) This is a short Pineapple Sage that is long blooming. It is the earliest and longest flowering of all the many varieties of Salvia elegans. We recommend it for indoor herb gardening as well as for outdoor borders and groundcovers.

 Our price: $7.00
Amount:

#604
Salvia elegans 'Tangerine' Salvia elegans 'Tangerine'

(Tangerine Pineapple Sage) This citrus-scented cultivar is our smallest variety of Pineapple Sage. Worth growing just for the exotic scent of its leaves, this culinary sage is also one of the longest blooming plants in its species.

#683
Salvia fulgens Salvia fulgens

(Cardinal Sage) Aptly named for its cardinal red, 2-inch-long flowers that glisten in the autumn sun, this full-sun sage blooms from fall into winter. Hummingbirds love it, but deer resist its charms. Growing up to 5 feet tall, it makes a fine herbaceous border plant or shrubby screen.

#825
Salvia haenkei Salvia haenkei

(Prawn Sage) Although the common name for this flaming red, Andean sage is based on its flower's resemblance to a shrimp head, its scientific name goes back to the days of late 18th century Spanish exploration of the Americas.

 Our price: $7.50

#768
Salvia lineata Salvia lineata

(Oaxaca Orange Wooly Sage) Tall, eye-catching spikes of dusky red-orange flowers that bloom from summer into fall make this one of our most impressive Salvias. Plus it's cold hardy into Zone 7.

#795
Salvia microphylla 'Orange Yucca Do' Salvia microphylla 'Orange Yucca Do'

(Big Orange Mountain Sage) Standout color is the big draw for this large growing Mountain Sage. Collected in the mountains of Northern Mexico, it grows well in a wide range of climates, including the hot dry Southwest and the cool moist Pacific Northwest. A difficult color to capture in a photo, it is well described as a warm orange with a scarlet overlay.

#746
Salvia oppositiflora Salvia oppositiflora

(Opposite Peruvian Sage) We know of no other Salvia with this color - rich & creamy orange with standout yellow hairs. These 3 inch blooms are displayed in opposite pairs on the floral structure - the source of it's name.

 Our price: $7.50

#665
Salvia regla 'Royal' Salvia regla 'Royal'

(Orange Mountain Sage) Another truly fine Salvia from Coahuila, Mexico. The foliage is tidy and the plant compact, with soft, large orange flowers that come for us any time of the year.  The absolutely unique characteristic of this clone is the bright orange bracts that turn heads of even veteran Salvia enthusiasts.

#678
Salvia squalens 'Orange Form' Salvia squalens 'Orange Form'

(Orange Sticky Peruvian Sage) Tropical in look and feel, this handsome Sage from Peru has large almost round heavily wrinkled leave that are aromatic and sticky to the touch. Once they grow to a foot tall they begin to bloom, and the flowers are stunning. Large bright orange/red with a prominent bee line, these never fail to attract attention.

Salvia striata red form Salvia striata red form

(Lined Leaf Sage) This rare sage from the mountainous Cajamarca region of Peru is very well adapted to heat and humidity. The smallish tomato red flowers have yellow hairs, making this an ideas subject for close up container gardening. Deep green stirate (lined: referring to the unusual almost parallel veination) leaves on a compact plant complete the package - a small & unusually cute Sage.

 Our price: $9.50

#620
Salvia tubiflora Salvia tubiflora

(Tubular Chilean Sage) This rare sage from the coastal mountains of northern Chile grows in an environment of foggy days and moderate temperatures. In the wild it can grow 9 feet tall and wide, but we have never seen one that large.
