The plants are so beautiful: large, healthy and just ready to grow and bloom. These are among the best salvias I have ever received. The selection of plants is fantastic too. My first order, but it certainly won\'t be the last!

I recently received my very first order from Flowers by the Sea Nursery in Northern California.
It won't be my last.
I had researched a lot online about Salivas and although many of the more exciting varieties seemed suitable for my climate -- I knew no nursery that grew them -- meaning I would have to try growing them from seed (not exactly my first choice).
Then I found Flowers by the Sea. What a treasure trove of Salvias! The sheer number of Saliva varieties and cultivars offered is almost mind boggling.
Furthermore what impressed me about the FBTS website was the great care and detail they took in presenting their plant offerings and the helpfulness of the information provided.
I placed my order the very next day and received it within a week's time. The shipment of plants was the most expertly packed box I have ever received. Each plant was swaddled in multiple wrappings of heavy packing paper. The plants themselves were in large pots and had substantial top growth.
Needless to say I am totally wowed by this very fine nursery. I look forward to dealing with them again in the near future.

Salvia elegans 'Honey Melon'
(Honey Melon Pineapple Sage) A very fine, small growing and long blooming variety of Pineapple Sage. Worth growing just for the exotic scent of the leaves, it also is the earliest and longest blooming of all the many varieties of Salvia elegans.

Spreading into a dense clump with underground runners, this plant can be used as a ground cover or as a small shrub.  By cutting back older stems to the ground, new fresh growth will keep it in flower for months.  Here, it starts blooming no later than May and sometimes continues until February!

Salvia elegans is used in its native Mexico, where it grows at high elevations in Pine and Oak forests, as an herb to relieve anxiety and to treat hypertension.  Just smelling the leaves makes anyone happier.  It makes a fine herb tea as well.

Grow this plant in partial shade, or full sun in the coolest climates.  Much easier to grow in most of the country than the larger growing varieties.  Expect to be delighted!
