Testimonials

I received 2 shipments in 2010, total of 8 plants, all salvias. I received large plants per capita and they were growing in an interesting well-drained mix. It contained what looked like tiny bits of clay pots in place of perlite. I highly recommend this nursery based on 2010 experience and future 2011 same.
Dave

Salvia elegans 'Tangerine
(Tangerine Pineapple Sage) A citrus scented, small growing and totally irresistible variety of Pineapple Sage. Worth growing just for the exotic scent of the leaves, it also is one of the smallest and longest blooming of all the many varieties of Salvia elegans.

How is this variety different from 'Honey Melon'?  The leaves are much smaller (1/2" x 1" vs. 1" x 1 1/2"), shorter (18" vs 24"), with darker flowers and of course a very different scent.  It is also a bit more shrubby.  Anyone who appreciates scented plants needs to have both, of course.

Spreading slowly into a dense clump with underground runners, this plant can be used as a ground cover or as a small shrub.  By cutting back older stems to the ground, new fresh growth will keep it in flower for months.  Here, it starts blooming no later than May and sometimes continues until February!

Salvia elegans is used in its native Mexico, where it grows at high elevations in Pine and Oak forests, as an herb to relieve anxiety and to treat hypertension.  Just smelling the leaves makes anyone happier.  It makes a fine herb tea as well.

Grow this plant in partial shade, or full sun in the coolest climates.  Much easier to grow in most of the country than the larger growing varieties.  Expect to be delighted!
