I ordered 4 salvia this year. All arrived GREEN and VIBRANT--no wilt and no breakage. By far the best plant packing I have seen...but most importantly, all the plants went into the ground and took perfectly.

I love the selection! Please keep scouring the world for new salvias.

Also love the blog!

Salvia gregii 'Cherry Chief'
(Cherry Chief Mountain Sage) With literally hundreds of varieties of Autumn Sage on the market, there is a great deal of confusion as to which of these are truly garden worthy.  Only after trialing a variety and having it score Excellent do we offer one of these for sale. This one, from Richard F. Dufresne of North Carolina is one of the best.

Compact, very free blooming and strong growing, Cherry Chief has flowers of a clear red - difficult to photograph with precision but eye catching in the garden.  It is one of the larger gregii types we grow, but can easily be kept smaller by pruning.

Highly recommended!

We are pleased to suggest these other plants, which go well with Salvia gregii 'Cherry Chief':

#748
Leucanthemum 'Victorian Secret' Leucanthemum 'Victorian Secret'

(Dwarf Double Shasta Daisy) Compact, tidy and covered with sparkling white fully double flowers for up to five months a year, this is NOT your grandmother's Shasta Daisy.

#292
Salvia darcyi Salvia darcyi

(Galeana Red Sage) With flowers like S. microphylla on steroids, this hardy Salvia comes with a bonus - it spreads gently by underground runners and forms a weed blocking clump of salmon orange beauty for months on end.

 Our price: $7.00
Amount:

#741
Salvia microphylla 'Robin Middleton' Salvia microphylla 'Robin Middleton'

(Robin Middleton Mountain Sage) This blush pink & white flowered Mountain Sage is named for the British Salvia Guru who maintains the wonderful site, Robin's Salvias. The large flowers are quite dramatic against the dark green leaves, making this one of the very best of its type.

 Our price: $6.50

#736
Salvia rubescens Salvia rubescens

(Venezuelan Red Sage) A spectacular plant, with gorgeous foliage and deep orange-red flowers on long spikes, this plant has been in cultivation for decades but is still quite rare in gardens. We'd like to see that change.

 Our price: $7.50

#651
Salvia x 'Cabrillo Sunset' Salvia x 'Cabrillo Sunset'

(Cabrillo Sunset Sage) This hybrid of Salvia macellaria and D'Arcy's Sage (Salvia darcyi) is a Summer through Fall bloomer selected by Kathe Navarez in 1999. It has very large coral red flowers in spectacular abundance, much to the delight of gardeners and hummingbirds alike. From Cabrillo College in Aptos, California, its "sunset" colors are most attractive and the plant is strong and grows well.

 Our price: $6.00

#285
Salvia x 'Christine Yeo' Salvia x 'Christine Yeo'

(Christine Yeo Sage) This hybrid of S. microphylla and S. chamaedryoides was found in the garden of Christine Yeo in England.  We have found it to be a hardy, much branched sub-shrub that blooms like crazy!

 Our price: $7.00
Amount:

#619
Salvia x 'John Whittlesey' Salvia x 'John Whittlesey'

(John Whittlesey Sage) A hybrid between D'Arcy's Sage (S. darcyi) and Mirto de Montes (S. microphylla), this plant is hardy, vigorous and long blooming. Grow it as a herbaceous perennial, and the tidy new growth and early season start to its flowering will make this one of your favorites.

 Our price: $6.50
Amount:

#348
Salvia x 'Scarlet Spires' Salvia x 'Scarlet Spires'

(Scarlet Spires Sage) A hybrid between the very hardy D'Arcy's Sage (Salvia darcyi) and the beautifully colored 'Raspberry Delight' Littleleaf Sage (Salvia microphylla 'Raspberry Delight'), this plant is superior to either of its parents in every way.

 Our price: $6.60
Amount:

#640
Salvia x jamensis 'Golden Elk' Salvia x jamensis 'Golden Elk'

(Golden Elk Mountain Sage) The first offering of our exciting new hybrid sage. Golden Elk is more compact, has better foliage and to our eye larger flowers than the well known variety, 'Sierra San Antonio' that it resembles. And here on the cool and humid Northern California coast it grows better than any other Mountain Sage.

 Our price: $7.00
