Testimonials
My plants arrived quickly and they were in excellent health. So far, they are doing well in my yard despite the unusually dry weather we've had on the Monterey Peninsula this winter. I will definitely order from fbts again!
S. Morrow

I just love the Divine Sages from FBTS - great quality and prince. The Luna variety is my favorite and I have just ordered my second one! Thank you for carrying this amazing entheogen from the Salvia family.
Joe

Salvia myriantha

Salvia myriantha

(Mexican Many Flowered Sage) This cloud forest Mexican native has so many flowers they are difficult to count, starting in the early Winter and going well into the Spring. The color is a deep violet, with two very large bee lines that develop after the flower opens. The foliage is sticky and aromatic, making this a good background shrub in the landscape.

This is a sizable plant that grows well in large containers. The flower color is quite eye-catching, reason enough to grow this unusual Sage. There are other marvelous Winter flowered Salvias, but this one always stands out.  And our hummingbirds love it!

Salvia x 'Berkeley Blues' Salvia x 'Berkeley Blues'

(Berkeley Hybrid Sage) This plant, which we believe to be a hybrid of Salvia mellisidora or Grape Scented Sage and Salvia rubiginosa or Rosy Bract Sage, is a superior garden plant. With nicer flowers, leaves, bracts and habit than either parent, it is tough, long blooming and even fragrant.

Salvia wagneriana 'White Bracts' Salvia wagneriana 'White Bracts'

(Pink & White Wagner's Sage) From the cloud forests of Southern Mexico and Central America comes this 100% dazzling winter blooming beauty. This one differs from the straight species in having white bracts instead of the usual pink. We have it in bloom from November through March - come snow, ice or temperatures as low as 20 degrees. How hardy is this plant, beloved and cultivated by the people in its native lands?

The Blue Species

When I think of Winter blooming Salvias, the warm colors – red, orange and pink – come to mind first. Possibly because THE most spectacular Sage of all, Salvia gesneriifolia 'Tequila', is a presence to contend with, growing for us over 16 feet tall and 30 feet across! But looking around our gardens this cool day, there are a number of very fine blue and purple Sages in bloom now. So in Part 2 of the Winter Salvia series, we’ll discuss these fine plants.

Here are some guidelines for success with this plant in your garden. Click on an individual icon for more detailed information.
