(Orange Sticky Peruvian Sage) Tropical in look and feel, this handsome Sage from Peru has large almost round heavily wrinkled leave that are aromatic and sticky to the touch. Once they grow to a foot tall they begin to bloom, and the flowers are stunning. Large bright orange/red with a prominent bee line, these never fail to attract attention.
Grow this in a container where you can enjoy its beauty close-up. In mild climates or in a greenhouse, this flowers for us almost year-round.

We are pleased to suggest these other plants, which go well with Salvia squalens 'Orange Form':
#701
Salvia cuspidata ssp. gilliesii
(Chilean Mountain Sage) This spectacular shrub, which used to be known as
S. gillesii
, is delicate in appearance but strong growing and robust in the garden. A native of the Chilean Andes, it grows in the full sun on rocky slopes often shrouded in fog from the nearby Pacific Ocean. The rounded wooly soft grey toothed leaves are pleasantly scented, and drape on the plant in a way that reminds me of the limbs of conifers.

Salvia discolor 'Purple Bracts'
(Purple Bract Peruvian Sage or Concolor Sage)This very distinctive variety of Concolor Sage is another outstanding plant from
Salvia
Guru Brent Barnes. As with the wild species, the slightly smaller leaves are apple green and smooth on the top, and have silver hairs on the bottoms. The biggest difference is in the flowers and the large bracts at the base of the dark-purple - almost black flowers.

Salvia miniata
(Misty Mountain Sage or Belize Sage) A herbaceous perennial that grows on shady, moist, low elevation mountain hillsides in southern Mexico and Belize, the myrtle-green, glossy leaves of this lush grower are different from any
Salvia
we have ever seen.

Salvia oxyphora
(Fuzzy Bolivian Sage) Dramatic large fuzzy pink flowers in large clusters top this shiny, dark-green-leaved, tropical looking plant. To say that it stands out in the garden is a true understatement. This is not your parents
Salvia
.

Salvia rubescens
(Venezuelan Red Sage) A spectacular plant, with gorgeous foliage and deep orange-red flowers on long spikes, this plant has been in cultivation for decades but is still quite rare in gardens. We'd like to see that change.

Salvia sagittata
(Arrowleaf Sage) This unusual herbaceous perennial is found at high elevations (9,500ft.-10,000ft.) in the Cordillera de los Andes of Chile and Peru. It’s arrow-head shaped leaves (
sagittata
refers to this shape) are deeply textured, yellow-green and woolly on the undersides.
The blooms are a gorgeous, brilliant royal blue and rise 1’-2’ from the leafy stems starting in Summer and continuing through the Fall.

Salvia tubiflora
(Tubular Chilean Sage) This rare sage from the coastal mountains of northern Chile grows in an environment of foggy days and moderate temperatures. In the wild it can grow 9 feet tall and wide, but we have never seen one that large.
