Testimonials
Never have gotten a delivery so quickly of mail-order plants and what's more, the plants were superior in quality to anything I've seen before. We have great nurseries in Berkeley and nearby but I must say, these were spectacular!
TG

I ordered 3 salvia apiana (white sage) plants and they came in right on time. The three plants were large with shoots coming off f them already and a healthy root system. I had ordered 3 of the same plants from another online grower and they came in almost dead and have since died. I give Flowers By The Sea an EXCELLENT and will order from them again!!!!!

Thank you,
Jessica

Salvia urticifolia

Salvia urticifolia

(Nettle Leaf Sage) Native to the Southeastern United States, this lovely herbaceous perennial is found from Florida to Pennsylvania - but is listed as an endangered plant in three states. The common and botanical name refer to the leaves, which resemble the Stinging Nettle, Urtica diocea.

Lovely bright purple flowers with two prominent bee lines are about 1/2 inch in size, but numerous enough on the foot long spike to make this a good plant for the shady garden - especially a woodland setting.  Give it good soil and at least regular water for best growth, although it can survive drought when established.

This US native deserves much greater prominence in our gardens.

Synopsis: Florida is one of the wettest states in the nation, yet it is a fine place to grow Salvias if you select shade-tolerant, moisture-loving species and ones native to Florida. Gardeners who are accustomed to growing Salvias in a dry climate face a variety of surprises in Florida gardens. These include recurrent periods of drought, many cloudy days and soil that is so poor it has to be amended for Salvias.
