I just received another order of Beautiful
Salvias from Flowers By The Sea. The plants are large and healthy in perfect condition.

I really can not say enough positive things about Kermit and Vikki!
You will not find better salvias or better service anywhere.

I have ordered a number of thimes since I found their site earlier this year. The plants and the service have been the best I have ever received and I have a huge yard and order a lot of plants online.. I can't wait until next year when they have all settled in and are blooming. I haven't allowed them to bloom yet though they have tried.

If you are looking for beautiful gorgeous salvias you are at the right place. I give FBTS my very highest recommendation.

I recently received my very first order from Flowers by the Sea Nursery in Northern California.
It won't be my last.
I had researched a lot online about Salivas and although many of the more exciting varieties seemed suitable for my climate -- I knew no nursery that grew them -- meaning I would have to try growing them from seed (not exactly my first choice).
Then I found Flowers by the Sea. What a treasure trove of Salvias! The sheer number of Saliva varieties and cultivars offered is almost mind boggling.
Furthermore what impressed me about the FBTS website was the great care and detail they took in presenting their plant offerings and the helpfulness of the information provided.
I placed my order the very next day and received it within a week's time. The shipment of plants was the most expertly packed box I have ever received. Each plant was swaddled in multiple wrappings of heavy packing paper. The plants themselves were in large pots and had substantial top growth.
Needless to say I am totally wowed by this very fine nursery. I look forward to dealing with them again in the near future.

Salvia x 'Costa Rica Blue'
(Costa Rica Blue Sage) A strong grower with substantial, tropical looking leaves, this variety is commonly listed as a variety of Anice Leaf Sage (S. gaurantica). By the way it grows and the season of flowering, we believe it to be a hybrid.

Use this fine plant where you are looking for a bold, large statement.  It can grow to 6 feet plus, but is generally a bit smaller.  The large violet blue  flowers are set off by the purplish bracts.  It flowers over a very long season, from late Spring until frost.

Costa Rica Sage appreciates rich soil, regular watering and feeding.  It will grow well in partial shade in warm climates.

We are pleased to suggest these other plants, which go well with Salvia x 'Costa Rica Blue':

#701
Salvia cuspidata ssp. gilliesii Salvia cuspidata ssp. gilliesii

(Chilean Mountain Sage) This spectacular shrub, which used to be known as S. gillesii, is delicate in appearance but strong growing and robust in the garden. A native of the Chilean Andes, it grows in the full sun on rocky slopes often shrouded in fog from the nearby Pacific Ocean. The rounded wooly soft grey toothed leaves are pleasantly scented, and drape on the plant in a way that reminds me of the limbs of conifers.

Salvia guaranitica 'Argentine Skies' Salvia guaranitica 'Argentine Skies'

(Argentine Skies Anise Leaf Sage) Stunning large whorls of very large, sky blue flowers mark this as a very special plant. Topping out at 60 inches, it is a tidy and aromatic plant for the garden or border.

#306
Salvia guaranitica 'Black & Blue' Salvia guaranitica 'Black & Blue'

(Black & Blue Anise-Scented Sage)  All of the Anice-Scented sages are strong, well behaved garden perennials.  This is one of our favorites because of the strong contrast between the black calyx and the rich blue corolla.

#635
Salvia guaranitica 'Blue Ensign' Salvia guaranitica 'Blue Ensign'

(Green Calyx Anise Leaf Sage) With large, Cambridge blue flowers and bright green calyx, this variety of Anise Leaf Sage is the best of any we know for use in containers. The plant is smaller and spreads less than other varieties, but still has great foliage and stunning flowers.

#307
Salvia guaranitica 'Omaha Gold' Salvia guaranitica 'Omaha Gold'

(Variegated Anise leaf Sage) One of the larger varieties of this species, it is wise to give this variety some support especially in windy areas. Planted at the base of a climbing rose, it will pop out with its fascinating leaves and always great flowers.

#308
Salvia guaranitica 'Purple Majesty' Salvia guaranitica 'Purple Majesty'

(Purple Majesty Anise Scented Sage) This highly adaptable, exceedingly long blooming herbaceous perennial begins to show color in early Summer and continues until frost renders it inactive. There are a number of varieties of this dependable and long cultivated species, with the above named cultivar being our current favorite due to it’s stunning large and profuse deep purple blooms and it’s lush, vibrant mint green foliage.

The upright habit and long inflorescence (8“-12”) of this beauty make it an obvious choice for the back of the boarder. Plants should be pruned nearly to the ground in late Winter to maintain a tidy, shapely appearance and to encourage vigorous new growth in the Spring.

#636
Salvia guaranitica 'Sapphire Blue' Salvia guaranitica 'Sapphire Blue'

(Sapphire Blue Anise Leaf Sage) With large, Sapphire blue flowers this variety of Anise Leaf Sage almost glow in the garden. Like 'Blue Ensign', this is a smaller growing variety of Anise Leaf Sage.

Salvia guaranitica 'Van Remsen' Salvia guaranitica 'Van Remsen'

(Van Remsen's Anise Leaf Sage) Big and beautiful, this large, cobalt blue Anise Leaf Sage cultivar was popularized by Salvia guru Rich Dufresne. And for good reason, as it is a magnificent plant in every way.

#687
Salvia oxyphora Salvia oxyphora

(Fuzzy Bolivian Sage) Dramatic large fuzzy pink flowers in large clusters top this shiny, dark-green-leaved, tropical looking plant. To say that it stands out in the garden is a true understatement. This is not your parents Salvia.

Salvia rubescens Salvia rubescens

(Venezuelan Red Sage) A spectacular plant, with gorgeous foliage and deep orange-red flowers on long spikes, this plant has been in cultivation for decades but is still quite rare in gardens. We'd like to see that change.

Salvia sagittata Salvia sagittata

(Arrowleaf Sage) This unusual herbaceous perennial is found at high elevations (9,500ft.-10,000ft.) in the Cordillera de los Andes of Chile and Peru. It’s arrow-head shaped leaves (sagittata refers to this shape) are deeply textured, yellow-green and woolly on the undersides.

The blooms are a gorgeous, brilliant royal blue and rise 1’-2’ from the leafy stems starting in Summer and continuing through the Fall.

Salvia x 'Big Swing' Salvia x 'Big Swing'

(Big Swing Sage) This may be the winner of the "best cobalt blue Salvia" contest. The inch long and across flowers are displayed on strong wiry branched stems held well above the handsome foliage.
