The pendulous abundance and frilly mouths of Zauschneria flowers cause this member of the Epilobium* genus to be likened to fuchsias. But unlike true fuchsias, which come from South America and love water, Zauschnerias are drought resistant Golden State natives that are ideal for dry gardens.

Bees and butterflies also love the nectar of Calistoga California Fuchsia. It's an easy-to-grow perennial that blooms for a long time during California's hottest months. Plant it in well-drained soil and a full-sun location.

* Botanists  now place this plant in the genus Epilobium.  We continue to use the long standing andfamiliar  name Zauchneria.
