Synopsis: Potato-vegetable soup containing lots of fresh Sage is a good cold-weather meal.
On chilly evenings, hot sage-scented soup fills the air with the fragrance of Autumn and provides a healthy, filling meal. Beatrice Peltre of The Boston Globe combines sweet potato, Yukon Gold potatoes, leeks, parsnips, turnips and a variety of herbal seasonings, including fresh Sage to create a creamy potage. She says you can top it either with yogurt or creme fraiche. If you feel like adding your own touch to the recipe, consider experimenting with a different variety of Culinary Sage other than Salvia officinalis.
I ordered Wendy's Wish salvia and Elk white ice salvia. I was thrilled to find the Wendy's Wish. It is one of my favorite salvias. I had never had a truly white salvia and it is stunning. The plants were in great shape after traveling from California all the way to Georgia. They are thriving in my garden. The hummingbirds cover these plants all day. I am so excited to have a source for salvi...

Your plants are truly Awesome!! Large, robust, and fairly leaping forth! The salvias are growing almost visibly, began blooming immediately. You have become my favorite gardening resource, actually, with so many interesting topics on your website. You grow the very sorts of plants that interest me most these days, and you do it very well!

I recently purchased two Black Sage plants from FBTS. For me it was "biting the bullet" to order them. Starting Black Sage can be difficult and I decided to purchase plants instead. For the price plus shipping I was expecting to get a couple of small starter plants in 3" pots. The day the plants arrived, my first thoughts on picking up the box were: "My. This is a large box for such a smal...

I purchased Salvia Arizonica and Oxalis from Flowers By The Sea. Gardening has been my hobby and passion for over 40 years. The plants that FBTS shipped to me were in pristine condition ... the root systems were appropriately developed and the foliage looked like wonderfully fresh leaves that one would see in the produce section of a high-end market. I have purchased product online from other g...
I've been gardening for hummingbirds for the past 30+ years. Since my needs are so specific (and I live in an area where most of the best hummer attractants do not), I've used mail order suppliers almost exclusively. My choices have worked over the years - especially in 2005 when we were visited (in Michigan) by a White-eared Hummingbird. Prior to that, the furthest east one had ever been seen ...

I received my second order of great looking plants - they were sent on Monday and didn't arrive until Friday - only slightly limp; I said "great looking" because they were thick, bushy and very healthy looking.

Loved the fullness of the plants, they looked healthy, but about half were VERY root bound. We had to transplant them very shortly after they arrived. Some are now planted out and we will watch to see their development. We liked the plants, but if/when we purchase additional plants we would prefer them not to be so root bound.

Ordering from Flowers by the Sea has been easy and efficient. All the plants I have received have thrived with minimal effort. They are a valuable source for new and interesting salvias as well as hard to find regulars. I would definitely recommend and use them again.
