Salvia uliginosa

(Bog Sage) This highly adaptive Salvia is ideal for the beginner as it is not at all fussy about soil type, sun exposure, drainage or frequency of watering. Although the name uliginosa refers to the bog-like conditions it is naturally found in, this species can also take fairly dry conditions and will spread much less which in some cases might be a good thing.

It prefers part shade but will also do just fine in full sun in all but the hottest and most arid environments. Lovely sky-blue blooms with a white “bee line” top the many thin, graceful stems. Bog Sage, swaying in the breeze at the back of the border is a pleasing sight indeed for bees, butterflies and humans alike.
