Never have gotten a delivery so quickly of mail-order plants and what's more, the plants were superior in quality to anything I've seen before. We have great nurseries in Berkeley and nearby but I must say, these were spectacular!

When I received my order the plant had snapped in half during shipping, I contacted them and told them about it and they promptly sent me a replacement that arrived in awesome condition! The plants were both very healthy and green despite the first one being broken. The quality of the plants was far above any other nursery I have ordered from.

Salvia darcyi
(Galeana Red Sage) With flowers like S. microphylla on steroids, this hardy Salvia comes with a bonus - it spreads gently by underground runners and forms a weed blocking clump of salmon orange beauty for months on end.

Do you think we like this sage?  For us where S. microphylla or S. x jamensis cultivars sometimes suffer in the cold damp weather, this plant is a welcome substitute.

Here in cool Northern California it blooms from June to October, with flowers and stems large enough that we use it as a cut flower.  The 1 inch by 2 inch wrinkled leaves grace a mounding habit that is as soft as the color.  With a dark red Salvia in the background, this color glows!

Native to the eastern Sierra Madre Occidental at a altitude of 9,000 feet, in the colder Zones, Galeana Red Sage acts as a herbacious perennial.

We are pleased to suggest these other plants, which go well with Salvia darcyi:

#748
Leucanthemum 'Victorian Secret' Leucanthemum 'Victorian Secret'

(Dwarf Double Shasta Daisy) Compact, tidy and covered with sparkling white fully double flowers for up to five months a year, this is NOT your grandmother's Shasta Daisy.

Salvia microphylla 'Hot Lips' Salvia microphylla 'Hot Lips'

(Hot Lips Sage or Mirto de Montes Sage) What a winner! Solid red flowers, solid white flowers - and everything in between - all on the same plant and often at the same time. This is a reliable clone of this much confused but highly desirable shrubby Sage.

 Our price: $6.00

#736
Salvia rubescens Salvia rubescens

(Venezuelan Red Sage) A spectacular plant, with gorgeous foliage and deep orange-red flowers on long spikes, this plant has been in cultivation for decades but is still quite rare in gardens. We'd like to see that change.

 Our price: $7.50

#651
Salvia x 'Cabrillo Sunset' Salvia x 'Cabrillo Sunset'

(Cabrillo Sunset Sage) This hybrid of Salvia macellaria and D'Arcy's Sage (Salvia darcyi) is a Summer through Fall bloomer selected by Kathe Navarez in 1999. It has very large coral red flowers in spectacular abundance, much to the delight of gardeners and hummingbirds alike. From Cabrillo College in Aptos, California, its "sunset" colors are most attractive and the plant is strong and grows well.
