(Jammin Jazz Anise-Scented Sage) Deep chocolate calyxes and stems support the large, hot pink flowers of Salvia BODACIOUS® 'Jammin' Jazz'. This new cultivar of Salvia guaranitica has heavily veined, bright green foliage that smells a bit like licorice.

Anise-Scented Sages, which generally have flowers in varying shades of blue and purple, are native to Brazil, northern Argentina, Paraguay, and Uruguay. Jammin' Jazz is a perennial that combines both soft and woody growth. But due to rapid growth and long bloom time, Jammin' Jazz is an excellent annual where winter temperatures are chilly. Also, you can store its thick, tuberous dahlia-like roots indoors during winter for spring planting.

Aside from its singular flower color, Jammin' Jazz differs from many types of its species by blooming when smaller and being more compact. It has a tight, rounded habit instead of the loose, open look of most Salvia guaranitica varieties. Mass it for major drama or let a single plant star in a patio container.

Similar to all S. guaraniticas, Jammin' Jazz is heat-tolerant, needs rich, well-drained soil, and loves moisture but can get by with average watering. However, unlike many anise-scented sages, full sun isn't the best exposure for this plant, especially in areas where seasonal sun and heat are intense. For best flower color and growth, plant it in a location providing partial shade.

Along with other Salvia guaranitica introductions developed at Flowers by the Sea farm and online nursery - including BODACIOUS 'Rhythm and Blues'- Jammin' Jazz' is popular with hummingbirds. Planted together, these sages attract lots of buzz from people as well as pollinators. Jammin' Jazz is available at retail nurseries in the U.S., the UK, and Europe.
