Like Shi Ho, Autumn Enchanter has lush, toothed, arrow-shaped leaves that transform from yellowish green to dark green as they age. However, the foliage of Autumn Enchanter is sturdier. Densely and broadly branched, it covers a lot of ground before blooming in fall.

This deer-resistant sage likes moist, shady garden spots but can take a bit of morning sun. It is hardy when receiving plenty of shade and water as well as soil that is rich and well-drained to protect the plant’s tuberous roots in winter.

Autumn Enchanter is an excellent choice for containers, shady pathways, or woodland groundcover. It was developed by Rhode Island’s Issima Nursery, which notes that it is a cross with Salvia glabrescens var. robustum.
